Given the nearly 16,000 days Sally and I have spent together since the late 1970s (before and after our wedding), it can sometimes be a challenge. Beyond our jobs, and the time we spend as spouses and parents, we find time to fit in camping, history, entertainment, family and friends, sports, concerts, and just relaxation vacations, and we do what we do for days and days. I’ve spent the night for weeks. Over our 43 years together. We have also hosted and met families of children from other parts of the country who have come to our city for various reasons. home and community. I’ve met some amazing people who have been in the same group as my children before they were grown up, participating in activities, leaving the nest to start a life at work, and starting a family of their own.

I was fortunate to be involved in the school trip as a chaperone, fan, teacher and coach. We have also been fortunate to meet many more wonderful people who have taken part in those excursions. This has allowed us to connect with many other parents who share the same reasons for being in their respective groups and situations.

During those many journeys over the years, we saw scenery, met family, met new friends, shared wonderful moments together, and many smiles, laughter, and sometimes It has brought tears (joy), and many wonderful memories.

Winter isn’t fun anymore at our age, but retired Sally and I haven’t turned into snowbirds yet. I want a short-term escape. It probably won’t be 6 months north, 6 months south, or even 9/3, but a month after the holidays are over, it’s a nice break from the cold in our area. I guess. Until then, I’ll continue with concerts, baseball games, and short trips to see family.

VFTB has touched on this narrative topic before, but since then our engagement has grown and does not seem to slow down. On the contrary, it seems that the way we enjoy our experiences has become a little stronger. I often think We’ve always tried to immerse ourselves in activities that we enjoy, but sometimes I wonder if people will look at us and ask themselves:

That said, to show my allegiance to being a Jimmy Buffett Parrothead, I revisited the lyrics of his more popular song titled “Growing Older but Not Up,” which he sings. To do.

“I’m old, but I’m not well

My metabolic rate is comfortably stuck

As the wind of time blows overhead

It is better to die while alive than to live while dead. “

Sally and I are definitely getting older, but we haven’t grown up yet. I hope we never do. We love singing together at the concerts we attend. Margaritaville, Rocket Man, Piano Man, Sweet Caroline, Hotel California, Don’t Stop Billie Vines, Jimmy Buffett, Elton John, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond, The Eagles and many others have performed with her band. I’ve heard live entertainment bands play on floating stages in Cleveland, Beamus Point, and local bars in Richmond, Virginia and Nashville, Tennessee. We love cheers and high fives. “Guardian Kids” (formerly Indians) come from behind or step up to another victory. We were very vocal at all of Jon’s sporting events and cheered on all of his teams/teammates, from his T-ball to playing in college. At any/all of the band, orchestra, and/or choral concerts that were on, we gave them a big round of applause. We were loud and proud when John pledged to serve and protect. During football season, I’m also very picky at Waddington’s Tavern with his fellow Jamestown, NY Browns Backers.

The thing is that those who think we are not age appropriate and need to grow up are right in some situations and settings but I am very happy that at a ripe age we can still do “middle ages” 69’s and?? (Love ya, Sally) Get excited, get up, sing as loud as you can and play sports everywhere like people of all ages you meet in concert halls, outdoor venues and stadiums. Enjoy and have fun. events and music programs.

To prove my feelings in this story, all you have to do is read the words tattooed on my left arm. The same words conclude the refrain of Jimmy Buffett’s “I’m getting older, but I’m not getting better.” “It is better to die while alive than to die while alive.”
