dave’s bagel is a local stall that has been around for almost two years, bringing new flavors to the boiled dough concoction. David Warnethe co-founder said the stand specializes in grilled bagels with a variety of toppings and signature options.
David Warne He and his wife said they had been thinking about the idea of building a bagel stand for a while, but what actually brought the idea to fruition was winston bagels owner Winston Mezzo.
Known as the Bagel Man, he was a huge influence on the Carbondale community. Seeing how much the community loved Winton’s Bagels, Waun wanted to bring it back to Carbondale.
“We wanted something like a cart so customers could see their meals and sandwiches being prepared in front of them.” Wawn Said. “We can interact with them, but I don’t think we can do that when we’re in the trailer. So we wanted to do something simple and small.
Wawn He said that the environment where couples can interact with customers is a big reason for repeat customers.
He said price is a big factor when deciding which events they attend.
“Thankfully, Carbondale has scrapped that fee and scrapped some rules and regulations to make life a little easier for food vendors. But in some cities, everything is charged. , in Vienna, the city of Vienna is $300 a year. [fee] so that they can set it up in their community. ” Wawn Said.
He said the fees food vendors have to pay to set up stands are necessary to become part of the food vendor business.
Melissa Wawnco-founder and wife of David, said it took a lot of trial and error to come up with the bagel toppings.
“We actually started making samples of bagels and such at home, grilling them and trying to understand grilling and such.” Melissa Wawn Said. “We sampled [them] I had all my friends, neighbors, and family help me with the recipes, the yummy stuff, and even the names of the menus. ”
She said they’ve been in action for almost two years, but they’re still learning.
“We set up in the rain before. We set up in the rain before, so that may or may not be beneficial, [at] At one of the wineries, we expected a large crowd, but there was no one there. We are living and learning because literally no bagels were sold that day. ” Melissa Wawn Said.
according to David Warnehe enjoys being able to do events at Southern Illinois University and try to live happily winstons name.
“So many students come in and say, ‘My mom or dad came to SIU and said we need to find a bagel shop.’ Clearly, they’re talking about Winston. But Winston. has retired, so next is me.It’s great to hear that.” David Warne Said.
