PATH Presents Awards to Smith County

Smith County recently received PATH’s Trudy Richardson Community Impact Award at the nonprofit’s annual dinner.

The award was given to the county for its partnership with PATH to “impact families facing eviction due to the economic impact of COVID-19.” This, combined with the benefits to local landlords, has made a huge difference for Smith County residents,” he said.

Smith County partnered with PATH (People Attempting to Help) to use approximately $8.8 million in COVID relief funds for rental assistance to local tenants, landlords and utility companies. The program assisted approximately 1,900 households and paid 527 landlords and 36 utility companies.

Smith County Commissioners Joanne Hampton and Neil Franklin and Justice of the Peace James Meredith attended the dinner and accepted the award on behalf of the county.

Launched in 2019, the Trudy Richardson Community Impact Award primarily recognizes companies and organizations that support PATH and have made a significant impact on its ability to fulfill its mission and deliver its services. Trudy Richardson was the granddaughter of her Mrs. Gertrude Windsor, the famous Tyler philanthropist who founded PATH in the mid-1980s. She has been deeply and passionately involved with PATH over the years and has served as a permanent member of its Board of Directors for her lifetime.

Smith County would also like to congratulate 89.5 KVNE on receiving an award for inspiring a record number of children during the Coats for Kids campaign.
