Pineda said his aggressive defense and controlled possessions allowed his team to stop the Union offense and limit shots to five. Atlanta United won 59.6% of his possession, creating his 4-for-13 chances for the Union. Atlanta United’s expected number of goals was his 1.33, while his 0.16 goals for the Union was his lowest this season. It was also the lowest expected goal against Atlanta United this season.
“We have prepared every day for our opponents,” said centre-back Alan Franco. “Today we faced the leaders of the league. , their goalie was a player in the game.”
Pineda kept the same starting line-up for three games in a row, also for the first time this season. Dom Dwyer made his fourth start of the season for the striker, who has Luis Araujo on the left wing and Brooks Lennon on the right. The midfield consisted of Thiago Armada, Amal Seidić and Santiago Sosa. The back four were Andrew Gutmann at left-back, Ronald Hernandez at right-back, and Fangioplata and Franco at centre-backs. Raul Gudino started his fourth straight game with a goal. Joseph Martinez has been on the bench for the sixth time in his last seven qualifying games.
Atlanta United came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 51st minute when Araujo hit a cross to Lennon who was running the left to right channel. Dwyer hit a loose ball first, but his shot was blocked by centre-back Jakob Gressness, who also blocked Dwyer’s follow-up at the goal line. Philadelphia’s Andre Blake then grabbed the ball.

Pineda was replaced in the 68th minute by Ronaldo Cisneros for Dwyer and Edwin Mosquera for Araujo.
Mosquera made an immediate impact. He beat several Union players before losing the ball as he approached goal. He then forced Blake to make a leaping save, reaching behind him to stop a shot in the 73rd minute that fired an arrow into the top left corner.
“I was already trying to celebrate it,” Mosquera said of the second shot.
After a long stretch of possession by the Five Stripes, Sadich hit the post in the 76th minute.
“The post was also different,” said Sadich when asked about Blake. “Only in some situations. Kind of unlucky.”
Mateus Rossetto and Martinez came on for Hernández and Seidic in the 78th minute as Pineda pushed to find the winning goal. Martinez turned to striker, Cisneros to right wing and Lennon to full-back.
Martinez’s header cleared the line in stoppage time.
Pineda said, “This could have put us in a playoff position for a little while, so this hurts.” Anyway, the team did very well. We have two wins now and with the results we can do that.But overall I am very proud of my players.”
